I choose if I’m happy. Way before I ever set foot in a stadium

It took 11 years to become World Champion.  I did it at home, in the London Olympic Stadium, in front of friends and family.

And then, 5 minutes later… disappointment.

…because I didn’t feel like I jumped far enough.  A voice inside whispered, “Sure, you won.  But it would have been better if you set a world record as well.  Or at least a personal best.”

I finally did the thing I had been trying to do forever and then 5 minutes later convinced myself it wasn’t enough.

Luckily, I had a brilliant team around me to drown that voice out and ensured I marched my butt around the stadium (twice!) soaking it all in.

I love that Scottie Scheffler spoke so openly about this last week.  While the spoils may be far more lucrative on the PGA tour than in ParaAthletics, the story is still the same:

Winning (or getting the job, the house, the car, the promotion) is never enough on its own.

Outcomes don’t determine if I’m happy or worthy.

I choose, way before I ever set foot in the stadium.
