Breaking the Most Boring Guinness World Record

It started with an idea so ridiculous I had to follow through.  Could I last for an hour in a wall sit?

On my first attempt, I managed 3 minutes and 30 seconds.  A long way off an hour, but I applied for world record attempt anyways, and gave myself a year to train.

As you can imagine, the training was unbelievably boring!

I would often squeeze it in between Zoom meetings. I hated the training so much I would procrastinate starting. But knowing I had to be back on a call helped me to crack on.

Initially, I would end the session when my legs started to shake and tremble, thinking I was at my limit.

Then one day, I decided to check that I really was at my limit. What would happen if I just let them shake? Turns out, I could last quite a long time.

Clearly, my brain likes to float the option of quitting way before my body is done. I started wondering if there were other areas of my life where I was quitting too early.

I warned the Guinness World Record Judge that my legs would probably start shaking 15 minutes into the attempt, but not to panic.  It didn’t mean I was done, and no matter how uncomfortable it might be, I had every intention of lasting the full hour.

On the day, I lasted for 1 hour and 46 seconds.

And while it may have been uncomfortable, it was also pretty fun.  Just not the kind of fun I want to be having every week!
